Prof. Cora Kaplan (KCL)
Cora Kaplan is Senior Research Fellow in English at King's College and Honorary Professor of English at Queen Mary, University of London. She is General Editor (with Jennie Batchelor) of the ten volume History of British Women's Writing (Palgrave MacMillan). Her recent publications include Genders (with David Glover) and Victoriana: Histories, Fictions, Criticism (Edinburgh and Columbia UP, 2007). She is completing a book on gender and racial thinking in Nineteenth-Century Britain.
Dr John Holmes (Reading)
John Holmes is Senior Lecturer in the Department of English Literature at the University of Reading and the Chair of the British Society for Literature and Science. His primary research is in nineteenth- and twentieth-century British and American poetry, from the Romantics to the present day. He has specific research interests in literature and science, particularly evolutionary theory; poetic form, including the sonnet and the epic; and Victorian intellectual culture and aesthetics, including the visual arts. He is the author of two monographs, most recently Darwin's Bards: British and American Poetry in the Age of Evolution (2009), and the editor of Science in Modern Poetry: New Directions (2012). John has been working on an interdisciplinary project to see what biologists make of research on biology by scholars in the humanities, and has recently started an AHRC-funded Research Fellowship on the Pre-Raphaelites and science.
